Abstract

We prove that Liu's conjecture on Fano indices fails in dimension four: 13891389 is the index of a terminal Calabi--Yau fourfold and of a four-dimensional log canonical singularity, but it is not the Fano index of any canonical weighted projective space of dimension four.

Provenance statement

Deep Bhattacharjee chose the problem and directed the work. Claude (Anthropic), through Claude Code, carried out the searches and computations, wrote the checking programs and the Lean 4 proofs and drafted the paper. Refutes Liu's Conjecture 4.2 in dimension four. The proofs are written out in the paper; the programs and their outputs are in the release. Both authors approved the final version. Code and data: release v2.0.0, https://github.com/creelie/fuzzy-guacamole/releases/tag/v2.0.0.
