About Hexagon

Hexagon is a repository for research works in the mathematical sciences and theoretical computer science, administered by the Hexagon Mathematics Foundation. Hexagon was created in response to the staggering changes that artificial intelligence has induced in the mathematics research landscape. It accepts research works of all kinds, provided that the contributor(s) believe in good faith that the work is correct and of interest to the mathematical community, and have made a good faith effort to ensure that it accurately cites prior work that should be cited. This includes works that the contributor may not wish to, or may not be able to, submit to other repositories such as the arXiv. Works that are also suitable for the arXiv are equally welcome, and a work may be posted to both.

Hexagon is in public beta. We welcome feedback and comments of any kind at admin@hexagonmath.org.

Depositing a work

Works are linked to contributors through their ORCID iDs. To submit a work, the submitting contributor answers a few questions, uploads the TeX source files, lists the contributors, and chooses the license under which the work will be distributed. Contributors may also upload supplementary information about their use of AI, such as prompts and transcripts of model responses.

Code such as Lean formalizations is not accepted as part of a Hexagon submission. Contributors may instead link to code hosted in a repository designed for that purpose, such as Mathlib or Palomar.

What submission to Hexagon means

Each newly-deposited work will appear on Hexagon once it has passed our moderation process. Acceptance of a work represents a decision to disseminate and preserve the work, and is not a judgment about its correctness, quality, or novelty.

Every version of a work has its own stable, permanent identifier. If you withdraw a paper, the work remains available but will be marked with a notice of the withdrawal.

Moderation

Each deposit is screened automatically to ensure that the work compiles without error, is a scholarly contribution to the mathematical sciences or theoretical computer science, and that it does not contain offensive or abusive material. Submissions to Hexagon are not rejected on grounds of significance, novelty, or correctness.

For at least an initial period, these automatic checks will be screened by a human moderator to ensure that they are working as intended, and for this reason there will be a brief delay between submission and an acceptance decision.

Submission limits

A new Hexagon account can submit one deposit per day, counted from 00:00 to 23:59 UTC. As your works are published, your daily limit may go up.

A ZIP upload may be at most 100 MiB. After expansion, the ZIP and its extracted files together may total at most 250 MiB. When source files are uploaded individually, all files in the submission may total at most 250 MiB.

Future features

We plan in the near future to add DOIs and commenting features to each record. Please forward other feature requests to admin@hexagonmath.org.

Submission terms

You keep your copyright

Hexagon doesn't ask you to transfer copyright and doesn't claim ownership of your work. Copyright stays with you and whoever else you share it with. The work is distributed under the license you choose when you deposit.

The license you grant Hexagon

When you deposit a work, you give Hexagon a worldwide, non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to reproduce, host, preserve, back up, make available, and distribute the submitted version and its metadata, as far as is reasonably necessary to run and preserve the repository. This includes converting files into other formats as necessary to keep the works readable or easier to view online, and sending copies to other archives or preservation services. If another organization takes over this repository, Hexagon can transfer this license to it. The license does not transfer copyright to Hexagon.

What you confirm when you deposit

By depositing a work, you're confirming that:

  • you're authorized to deposit the work on behalf of every listed contributor;
  • the work, and every file in it, can lawfully be distributed, and any third-party material is properly licensed or otherwise permitted;
  • nothing in the deposit infringes on anyone's copyright, patent, trade secret, privacy, or other rights, and nothing in it is unlawful; and
  • you have the authority to make these confirmations and to grant the license to Hexagon.

Hexagon may remove or decline to publish material when necessary to run the repository, protect safety, meet our rights obligations, or comply with the law.

Accepted submissions are permanent

Once a version of a work has been made public, it will remain part of the scholarly record, even if the submission is later revised or withdrawn.
