%%================================================================== \section{The summation routine}\label{sec:routine} %%================================================================== This section and the next reproduce the algorithm of \oai{} \cite[Sections 3--4]{OAI26} for a factor system with values in a commutative $\Q$-algebra $\A$. The algorithm is theirs; the statements are repeated with proofs so that the paper is self-contained. \subsection{Replacement forms and the polynomial $H$} Give each incidence $(f,v)$, $f\in\F$, $v\in I_f$, its own indeterminate $Y_{f,v}$, and suppose \begin{equation}\label{eq:degbound} \deg_{\{Y_{f,v}\}}\prod_{f\in\F}\Phi_f\bigl((Y_{f,v})_{v\in I_f}\bigr)\le d . \end{equation} With $d$ as in \eqref{eq:M} this holds. Choose for every incidence a row $\PP_{f,v}(T)\in\Q[T]^{1\times n}$ with $\PP_{f,v}(0)=\e_v$ and $\deg\PP_{f,v}\le R$, and define \begin{equation}\label{eq:H} H(T)=\sum_{x\in\{0,1\}^n}\ \prod_{f\in\F}\Phi_f\Bigl(\bigl(\ip{\PP_{f,v}(T)}{x}\bigr)_{v\in I_f}\Bigr)\in\A[T]. \end{equation} At $T=0$ every input is restored, so $H(0)=Z$, and each input has degree at most $R$ in $T$, so \begin{equation}\label{eq:dH} \deg_T H\le d_H:=dR . \end{equation} The algorithm computes $H$ at $T=0$ from information at the points $T=1,\dots,Q$. \subsection{The design} \begin{definition}[Design]\label{def:design} Let $r\ge2$, $D\ge1$ and $1\le Rd_H$. It suffices to compute the truncated Taylor expansions \begin{equation}\label{eq:Ht} H_t(z)=\sum_{j=0}^{J-1}\bigl([z^j]H(t+z)\bigr)z^j\qquad(t\in[Q]), \end{equation} since Hermite interpolation (Section~\ref{sec:prelim}) recovers $H$, and hence $Z=H(0)$, from these $QJ$ coefficients by rational linear combinations. Fix $t$. The rows at $t+z$ need not respect the design at $t$. Write $\Delta\PP_{f,v}(z)=\PP_{f,v}(t+z)-\PP_{f,v}(t)$; every entry is divisible by $z$. For a fixed $x\in\Q^n$ introduce indeterminates $\vec X=(X_1,\dots,X_n)$ and replace each input by $\ip{\PP_{f,v}(t)}{x}+\ip{\Delta\PP_{f,v}(z)}{\vec X}$. Let \begin{equation}\label{eq:Gx} G_x(\vec X,z)=\prod_{f\in\F}\Phi_f\Bigl(\bigl(\ip{\PP_{f,v}(t)}{x}+\ip{\Delta\PP_{f,v}(z)}{\vec X}\bigr)_{v\in I_f}\Bigr). \end{equation} Setting $\vec X=x$ and summing over $x\in\{0,1\}^n$ gives $H(t+z)$. Holding $\vec X$ fixed instead makes every correction independent of $x$, so the design at $t$ still separates the factors; and every occurrence of $\vec X$ carries a factor $z$, so \begin{equation}\label{eq:degX} \deg_{\vec X}\bigl([z^j]G_x(\vec X,z)\bigr)\le j . \end{equation} \begin{lemma}[Boolean substitution]\label{lem:moebius} Let $q\ge0$ and let $\A$ be a commutative ring with identity. For each $x\in\{0,1\}^n$ let $p_x\in\A[X_1,\dots,X_n]$ have degree at most $q$. Then \begin{equation}\label{eq:moebius} \sum_{x\in\{0,1\}^n}p_x(x)=\sum_{\substack{E\subseteq[n]\\|E|\le q}}\ \sum_{U\subseteq E}(-1)^{|E|-|U|} \sum_{\substack{x\in\{0,1\}^n\\ x_i=1\ (i\in E)}}p_x(\mathbf 1_U).\footnotemark \end{equation} \end{lemma} \footnotetext{Lemma 3.3 of \cite{OAI26}.} \begin{proof} Fix $x$ and replace each positive power of $X_i$ in $p_x$ by $X_i$. Boolean evaluations are unchanged and the degree does not increase, so the result is a multilinear polynomial $\tilde p_x=\sum_{E}c_{x,E}\prod_{i\in E}X_i$ of degree at most $q$. Evaluating at the indicator vectors and inverting on the Boolean lattice gives $c_{x,E}=\sum_{U\subseteq E}(-1)^{|E|-|U|}p_x(\mathbf 1_U)$, and $c_{x,E}=0$ when $|E|>q$. Setting $\vec X=x$ and summing over $x$, the monomial $\prod_{i\in E}x_i$ selects exactly the assignments with $x_i=1$ for $i\in E$. \end{proof} Apply the lemma to $[z^j]G_x$ for each $j
